Richard Branson is stockpiling 10,000 courses of the vaccine Tamiflu. He says he wants to protect his employees, because a flu outbreak could ground an airline.

I learned a little bit about Richard Branson in my economics classes. He’s a British, self-made billionaire who created the Virgin empire. He’s done everything except have a successful American reality show (it was cancelled mid-season). Come on, Branson! If Family Matters could maintain high enough ratings to stay on the air for nine years, surely you could come up with something halfway decent. Yes, that’s right, Urkel was on for nine years. Get your shit together, Branson! Clearly, our standards aren’t all that high.

Oh, so back to economics. Richard Branson is a smart guy, and I’m sure he knows a thing or two about supply and demand. Billionaires hoarding things can never lead to any good. I’m not sure how much one course of a flu vaccine is, but 10,000 courses sound like a lot of something that will be in high demand. If the supply of Tamiflu runs short, the general public might suffer an epidemic, and the rest of the world might be forced to buy vaccines from Branson at a ridiculously inflated price!

I read the vaccine story on MSNBC, and there was this really unattractive picture of Branson in it. He appears to have less life than his own wax dummy from Madame Tussaud’s.

Does anyone else think the wax one has more personality?
